Like I said a few weeks ago, some people might like the way this fight ends some might not. TWC image is Sarela and Alluria because why not. Also Don't forget the questions for the interview page at the Facebook. I'm going to give it till next Friday then I'm making with the draw`n.
Not gonna lie. Didn't see that coming. I knew Cade was gonna lose the fight, but I didn't think he'd forfeit. This has been an interesting chapter so far...
By the way, did you originally plan for Sarella to die along with Alluria?
Count me in the column of those who like how it ended. He showed true character and heart, like a "chaotic good" rogue is supposed to, and showed that he knows far more about honor than either of them with their fanatic warrior bullshit.
Also, you managed to prolong the contest without any of our protagonists actually being defeated - clever ;)
I think Cade really is pissed off; he's tired of being disrespected by everyone. Still, I wish he'd gone for the win, even if it meant killing Nephatia.
As a chick myself, yeah, I'd have shot her ass if it meant keeping myself alive. But I totally get what Cade did here. I am one of those say huzzah to this ending.
Wow... considering what happened to her fellow teammates, Alluria (water girl) and Sarela (fire girl), one would think that she'd be a bit more hesitant about wanting to continue the fight. After all, the others pretty much lost their faces... literally.
I'm with Cade on this one.
The world is a better place with a smoking hot, blue, warrior chick running around.
There's a shortage of those at present and I'm all for conserving/protecting THAT natural resource.
Yeah, I figured this would happen, Cade isn't a "to the death!" type of guy, while this chick is. Sides, this way she is insulted WAY more. Least she didn't lose her face like the other two.
I agree with what Loth says. Especially the "I knew you were useless" ... which means I don't like this what this fight ends but agree that it's in character for him.
You really agree that not wanting to murder a woman in front of her young child just to win a contest makes him a useless person? I would say exactly the opposite. I suspect that Nefertina appreciates still having a mom, particularly considering she already lost her dad
If SHE consider it battle to death, I would not think of it as "only contest" either. It's not like they were playing chess, they were using real weapons against each other.
I prefer not to let others determine what I think - I do my own thinking, as, apparently does Cade (and good for him!). Whether or not I would consider it a battle to the death would depend solely on my own morality and, of course, on the actual rules of the contest, and not at all on whether crazy psycho hot blue chick thinks its a battle to the death or not.
...he wouldent NEED to kill her...gut shots are good...disables a person just fine, and she would have hours to rescive medical attention. So YES Cade is useless.
Betting that a gut shot (or any other shot that actually hits them, for that matter) is not going to kill a person is both risky and pretty damn callous to boot. Fortunately, Cade has a conscience.
I can see Cade getting real philosophical..."You think I'd want to kill someone in front of their own child? You've made being a warrior more important than being a mother"...
And then he goes and blows the moment by groping her or something along those lines.
Yes! This! For all of Cade's flaws he's a good guy at heart. He's not about to make some poor kid an orphan just because her mama is on some warrior ego trip. If this fight continued he'd have to kill her to win, and he could do it too. His gun is a weapon she can't defend against, and she's too stubbornly proud to dodge. That would be like running away for her. And with her weapon destroyed she can't really kill him first, so the outcome is foregone. He kills her, daughter winds up crying and alone, and he feels like a first class heel. No way is he gonna let that happen. So he forfeits instead and walks away with his head held high. Everyone lives, Cade can live with himself, and maybe Mama learns something about valuing her child over her foolish pride.
Um, she still has her magic which means she can still attack. If she was truly unable to continue fighting the judge presumably would have called the match in Cade's favor.
It's not a matter of if she can keep fighting or not, it was clear from the nature of this competition that the judge will not call time before someone gets killed, unless that person specifically concedes.
I'm just saying, it seems like it would be in Cade's nature to have a momment of "Wow, he's way more mature than we all thought"....to immediately be spoiled by him being a perv
Soooo many people were putting him down (both in and out of comic), but not me, had complete faith he would pull something unexpected, thought he would have still ended up winning but this is even better
The important thing here is that with Cade's forfeit, that means we still get a chance to see Kinuko flexing her well-toned monkish physique fighting one of the elemental gals (though I expect we'll get to see Ral get his butt kicked first) Now that I think of it, that may have played into Cade's decision - he probably was looking forward to watching Kinuko also. ;)
The more I read this scene, the more I like it. I think this may now be my favorite scene of the comic, moving the "Loth Bathing" scene down into second place.
I like the way this ended. Did not see it coming, but perhaps Cade didn't want to make her child an orphan. Perhaps Cade has some insight into being an orphan.
I'm curious to see what little Tina's reaction will be - will she have the heart to be grateful for her mother's life even if mom can't appreciate it, or has she already been brainwashed into her mom's bassackwards warrior code and she'll spit at Cade?
actually. that was a pretty cool way to end the fight, move onto character development, and introduce a couple of new aspects to Cade besides comic relief. while he's not exactly my favorite character in the story so far, he definately gained a couple ranks of cool factor in this and his speech in the next page.

And well done Cade, you are better at the fight than they gave you credit for.

Well done indeed!
"You won that match, Cade. Don't ever forget that."
